Sri Venkateswara Temple, Bridgewater, NJ
Good day everyone. Hope all of you enjoyed your weekend. I visited Sri Ventateswara Temple on Sunday in the morning. I will apologize for this post early for not taking pictures inside the temple because it is forbidden. However, I did take several images of the exterior.
The outside design is Dravidian architecture,which consists of temples with pyramid-shaped towers with gods and goddesses’ sculptures along the exterior.
When you enter the interior second floor, there are several shrines with their own individual temples that stand separately around the main room. I have never been to the southern part of India but felt like I entered a dream when I took the first step in the main room. Colorful clothing on the deities with flowers surrounding the sculptures. In addition, there were statues on the exterior walls of the larger temple in the hall. As I mentioned in the beginning of this post, the public was not allowed to take pictures inside the temple. Some people do sneak in a pic or two but I highly respect any religious place’s policy for leisure photography.
Once we finished our lunch in the canteen on the first floor, I went outside to explore the temple grounds. Since there was heavy construction in place, I took pictures of the roof and any little spots I could get my hands on 🙂
The above picture on the right is Lord Ganesh.
Below is my favorite part of the temple because you can see the Hindu gods and goddesses on the main exterior pyramid.
I felt like an Indiana Jones fan while going crazy and snapping pictures of the architecture. Once the construction is complete, I’ll revisit and show you all the finished temple.

it seems to cover a very large area from your photos. am i right? is there a large Hindu community here? i lived within 5 miles of a huge temple and shrine in Malaysia called Batu Caves, not sure if you are familiar with this and we often went during a festival called Thaipusam. Your post reminded me of the procession and festivities. Nice shots!

Yes very large Hindu community in New Jersey. I live in Pensylvania and there’s a handful as well but not as much as in NJ and New York. yes I am familiar with the Batu Caves and it reminds me of Char Dham- 4 pilgrimage sites in India. My mom went to these with relatives but I had work.

my 2 closest girlfriends are Hindus and i learned so much from them, its a rich culture going back in time. so heart warming to see a familiar image in a foreign from something close to home. have you been to India before? What an odd question but i am inclined to believe you have been in the USA for a time now. ignore my ignorance!!

I grew up in India but immigrated to the US at a young age. I did go back once but that was back in summer of 2001. I’m long overdue. Lived in the US for almost 20 years 🙂

ok so i am not too far off. my great – great grandmother is from Pondicherry and we have been to a few places when i was a young child. i dont remember much except being pushed along a lot!! Hope you get a chance to visit India and your home state in the future. i am a strong believer in preserving culture.

OMG! Pondicherry has great beaches though with traditional-style resorts- never been but want to go. be cool to get some of our bloggers together and plan a trip 🙂 Recently I met up with a Twitter follower of mine and it was a great experience.

yes its beautiful, my dad took photos back then of his grandparents home. must have been a pretty cool experience to meet up with your twitter friend. planning a trip? sounds even cooler.

Yes it is. I can’t wait until they paint it. I hope they paint gold or create a replica of Madhurai Meenakshi Temple where each sculpture has a different color than its neighbor.
