Benefits of Yoga

Having a negative mind will never give you the positive life you want.

We all go through rough times in our lives. Yoga is one of your answers to a healthy, balanced, and positive living lifestyle. Use yoga as a gateway to overall wellness for your mind, body, and soul.

The benefits of yoga are limitless but below are some that are useful to all of us, regardless of age and do-ability of exercises.

  1. No comparison at home in your Zen place. We all have a corner in our home where a Zen place exists. If yours is under the dinning room table or in the bathroom, please change it. A place where there are ZERO distractions. When you are sitting in a pretzel like position and conducting deep breathing exercises, you are in charge of how you want to reward your mind, body, and soul. No comparing to those around you because this is your Zen space. I have 2 Zen spaces in the house: living room for yoga and kitchen counter to write blog posts.

  2. Develop self-awareness. As you start to perform various yoga exercises, such as Surya Namaskar, you will know how and where tension is being held if out of balance. When you break concentration, you will know how and where it was broken. You will also be aware on how to rejuvenate your body by concentrating on relieving stress and tension and pursue long-term relaxation.

    Your know yourself. Don’t shy away from it. Embrace it.
  3. Controls high blood pressure. Yes we do get to this state at some point in our day when that coworker just can’t let it go. Right? Use Pranayam techniques to help in relieving emotional tension from your body. One technique I use is where I inhale normally until my lungs are full. Hold for 3 seconds and then exhale slowly by allowing my lungs to properly get ready for the next inhale. When Pranayam becomes a regular routine for 15 minutes per day, you will feel the difference in controlling anger and healing your body at the same time.

Take charge and don’t hold back. It’s all about you.

Try keeping a routine everyday when starting yoga. Take baby steps because this is about you and your wellness. Be positive and happy that you are rewarding your body for what its worth.

Bottom line:
The main purpose of yoga is to target the darkest corner of your body, how to change it to positive energy, and let the brightest light shine through your soul. Use yoga as a martial arts tool to combat your biggest opponent: your ego.
